I'm going to Honolulu in 2 weeks...?

Question

I'm going to Honolulu in a few weeks and would like a few suggestions on where and what to do out there - (I'm from the East Coast and haven't ever been out there before).

Any one have any great, worthwhile and budget friendly suggestions?

I am from the Northeast originally but live in Hawaii now. It is spectacular. The weather is great year-round and the environment is simply gorgeous. Though, I don't think the weather in Hawaii right now is that different from weather in the East. Hot - high 80s - with a lot of humidity. It does not rain much during the summer though, which can be disappointing because usually it's a nice break from the heat.



As far as activities are concerned, I would recommend getting away from the tourists at Waikiki. If you can rent a car, I would recommend doing that. Then most of your activities will be free, or much cheaper at least.



North Shore

- Matsimoto's Shave Ice

- Waimea beach with big rock and waves

- Hike to Kaiena Point (3 miles)

- Poly Cultural Center



Windward

- Kayak to Moku Islands

- Lanikai beach windsurfing

- Hike to waterfalls

- Hanauma Bay snorkle



Central

- Arizona Mem

- Pearl Harbor



Downtown

- Ala Moana Shopping Center

- Ward Shopping Center

- Chinatown



Leeward

- Ko Olina beach resort (nice beaches)



The hiking is great all over the island - you can find websites that describe the hikes and give directions. backyardoahu.com or something like that is one.



I do not recommend skydiving since several people have died recently.



If you scuba dive, then be sure to do Electric Beach and maybe shell out some money for a couple boat dives.



You can take a 1-2 day trip to a neighbor island for about $80 roundtrip (airfare) or $200 for an organized tour. I would recommend the Big Island to see some lava activity. Hawaii has the newest land in the world. You prob won't actually see red lava, but you will see the steam from where it enters the water. You will also see steam pits and can hike in volcano craters. Cool!

I lived on Oahu for four years, and people would come to visit me from time to time. At some point, we would usually rent a car and drive around Makapuu point, maybe stop at Waimanalo beach for swimming and boogie boarding, up the windward side, visit Byodo-In in the Valley of the Temples in Kaneohe, down the north shore to Waimea Bay to watch the surfers in winter or the snorkelers in summer, into Haleiwa to grab something to eat, and back to Honolulu by the saddle between the Koolaus and the Waianae Range.



Inevitably, my visitors would say their favorite part of the whole trip was just driving around the island like that. So, get out of Waikiki at some point. If you can't drive, you can take The Bus, but it will take you a bit longer that way.

that are you petrified of, Honolulu or Phoenix? i'm guessing Phoenix because that it is your destination. deliver your ipod and pay interest to song in the course of the flight. deliver a competent e book and do somewhat interpreting. save your ideas occupied so that you do not ought to imagine too a lot about how terrible that is going to be in Phoenix. Plan indoor events out of the nice and cozy temperature and faraway from any ability highway crime. do not watch the sky at evening when you're there. you may see unidentified flying merchandise's that are scary. concentration on your go back to Honolulu. reliable success.

Went to Hawaii a few years ago, didn't really care for Oahu---reminded me of downtown Chicago. I would go to Pearl Harbor, we basically only spent a few days on that island. We spent most of the time in Kauai. Very pretty. But, if you are only going to be on Oahu, drive around I hear there are some pretty places too. I just didn't think that island really made me think of what Hawaii should look like. Kauai is very laid back, and it is almost like they roll up the sidewalks at night. I don't think there is a lot of "partying" on that island. Have fun! And try to visit some of the other islands. I would love to go back and go to Maui or the Big Island. It might be worth the money to go there, after all when will you ever get back to Hawaii? Oh, you might what to see if you can find one of those "Complete Idoit books" they have a great one on Hawaii. (I think it is called, "The Compete Idoit's guide to Hawaii" we had one---it's orange in color. Was very helpful, and was fun to read---lots of helpful hints and ideas.

If you go to Oahu here are a few great things to do...

1. Drive Tantales Drive - Takes you through the Hawaiian jungle - Stop at overlook.

2. Walk Waikiki beach from Hilton Hawaiian Village to Kapalaini Park

3. Climb Diamond Head

4. Snorkel at Hunama Bay

5. Go to Alamoana Beach Park and walk around Majic Island

6. Eat at Church's Steak House on Waikiki Beach above Dukes

7. Go to the Luau at Hale Koa Hotel

8. Go see Don Ho

9. Go to Victoria Ward's Center and eat at Scoozies

10. Go to Punch Bowl and take a walk to the overlook

11. Eat at Mos Burger on Kalakawa downtown Waikiki

12. Take a morning dip at Waikiki beach as the sun rises then go for breakfast.

13. Watch the Friday night fireworks from the outdoor cafe at Hilton Hawaiian Village (7:00 pm)

14. Visit USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor

15. Go shopping/dinner at Aloha Towers

16. Make sure and take hula lessons

17. Go to Waimea Falls

18. Visit the North Shore/Pipe Line

19. Walk through the Dole Pinapple maze if you dare

20. Take a drive around the island in a convertable mustange you can rent.

there are many things to do in and near honolulu..i think wen u get here u should go to the polynesian cultural center it is a nice place to go to and learn about the different cultures of hawaii and the dances like hulu and tahitian..and they have luaus and firedances..its pretty cool..hawaiian waters adventure park is a fun place to go to with a family but its expensive...unless ur military u can get discount..other things u can do are..learning how to surf,boogie board,snorkel,tan out in the sun,go hiking on diamondhead,sea life park,honolulu zoo,north shore..there are plenty of things to do..and there are alot of places to eat...i would suggest going to L&L..its a local place to eat and u can get a taste of the local foods..like Chicken Katsu,chili with rice,spam musubi..etc...anyways..hope the info helped a little..

After you get your bags from baggage claim, go to the ticket counter and get a flight to another island: Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, anywhere else.

defintetly go to pearl harbor. that is a must. diamond head crater is another site to visit. also take a tour to the top of mauna kea. u can also check out another island

youhave to try surfing! and slushies down here are awesome!! you can also go hiking, visit museums, enjoy the view, or just sit back relax and get a sun tan! trust me I know, I live there!
