so currently im working as a server..and going to a local community college. Ive been planning on transferring to UofHawaii.. However, heres the thing if i transfer now im out of state paying around 25K more a year for schooling. If i move to hawaii take a year off school and become a legal resident i can save money and see if i really want to live in Hawaii.. Now im looking at craigslist plenty of roommates looking around 300 avg a room split amoung 2 or 3 ppl.. plus i have serving experience and could probably work 2 jobs since i wont be going to school and first.. I plan on saving aleast 5K before moving that way i have a cushion to rely on until i find a job.. and if all else fails im sure my parents will help me out a little if im in absolute need... and if all else fails move back. I just dont want to work in a city around here its cold during the winter i see my life going downward im a smart student good GPA.. but i need to find happiness and tranquilty... do i have a good plan?

I'd be very very cautious wanting to move to Hawaii based on pictures and your fantasies of "happiness and tranquility."

Hawaii is one of the most expensive locations in the country, and trying to make a living is not going to be like the "happiness and tranquility" you might have experienced as a tourist, if you've ever even been to Hawaii before. (It sounds like you've never even visited?)

You should not count on renting a room for that little in the slightest. $5000 is not a big enough cushion. And finding a job is likely to take you months. There are tons of people who need work, and things like server jobs are easily going to go to people who've been working the restaurants of Hawaii for years, know their way around, grew up in the islands, etc. You'd be at the back of the line to find such things, and you'd seriously be begging for places to let you bus tables just for tips to get your foot in the door.

If you're already on the mainland pursuing your education, it tends to make the most sense to stay put and get resident tuition where you are. Someday when you have more savings and more experience to help you have something to offer Hawaii, you might think about it again then. But right now a move based on your fantasies (from having never even visited?) would likely be but a very painful and expensive lesson...without a lot of "happiness and tranquility."

This is my commonplace reply that I give. There are good matters about residing in Hawaii and there are some now not so advantage of dwelling in in Hawaii. Hawaii is high priced. Ninety percentage of the whole lot is sent in this is the major motive it cost extra. Fuel costs are coming down it is in the nigh three greenback variety. Hawaii is simply as dependable as anywhere else might be safer. We've everything the mainland has besides for a couple of restaurants and stores. The water that surrounds us does no longer make so much of a change. No sunlight hours financial savings Time we under no circumstances move out clock ahead or back. We've an best bus system on Oahu. If you are willing to take some time then it's going to shrink on gasoline expenditures. That you can have automobile however you could wish to take the bus as a rule and use a car best when fairly needed. Hawaii is one in every of most culturally various position in the united states. We've got a number of cultures here. Hawaiians being probably the most obvious. We also have a numerous Asian populace; japanese, chinese, Filipino, Thai, Vietnamese (sp?). All these tradition range. And it's first-class in the event you gain knowledge of the diversities. In the event you love food Hawaii is one of the fine areas to be. Because of our many cultures we have many exclusive kinds of food. Are trying them all. Due to the fact that we now have many extraordinary cultures in Hawaii there are lots of set of "principles" all of them quite specific. Make an effort to be trained. When you're making an effort to gain knowledge of the the differences then you are going to be permitted. There is racism in Hawaii, racism is far and wide. One of the crucial racism is aimed toward Whites. Racism at White is not all that original so you are going to get Whites pronouncing that each one Locals and or Hawaiian are racist. That is not actual. The Locals and Hawaiians who're racist toward Whites are typically racist in opposition to different cultures. Racism shouldn't be right. But it does exist. No longer each person who lives in Hawaii is Hawaiian. To be Hawaiian to have to have Hawaiian blood. Or be of Hawaiian ancestry. If you are like me and have lived in Hawaii all their lifestyles but don't have any Hawaiian blood you are regarded a neighborhood. We even have a dialect of Pidgin Creole English. Or it's called Pidgin for brief. This language was created during the plantation days. We had employees from in all places Asia and the Pacific they all spoke different languages and the needed a approach to communicate. So a new language grew and was created. There a some who hear Pidgin an the equate it with lack of intelligence. Do not do this! Then there is what will also be referred to as "Rock Fever" some individuals are inclined to believe trapped considering the fact that they cannot pressure anyplace else but Hawaii. There is no method that you can pressure into an additional state. In case you ought to fly dwelling to the Mainland then 1) take extra time for the reason that you ought to fly over an ocean first. 2) Will price extra in view that you have to fly.

Im from UK, i dont know much about hawaii other than it looks beatiful, but what i would say is your still only young and moving out costs alot of money if you then need to find more cash for your studies you will struggle.

Also having a year out isnt always a good idea, its hard to get back to studies once you having fun.

Stay at home get a degree in a good subject ie. engineering and you can go anywhere in the world, australia and asia are crying out for USA/UK graduates.

$5,000 might last you for a week, if you already get a job lined up. Don't move if you don't have a job lined up. I got the job offer at Pearl Harbor before I moved to Honolulu, I wasn't going to move anywhere if I didn't know I was already guaranteed some source of income first.

If it's your dream to live there, then do it. You won't get this oppurtunity again, and will always wonder "what if" later in life. I would try to take at least a class or 2 while waiting to enroll for good to keep you on your feet, and yes, have some back up money for sure
