Pretty much the same temp all year as I remember, but rainfall changes from season to season doesn't it? Or, what are some bad areas for bugs?

Your best defense against mosquitoes in Hawaii is the ocean breeze. Mosquitoes are very light, and will not fly in wind, because the would get blown away, eventually over the ocean. Not a good survival strategy.

Now, I'll tell you something interesting, which is absolutely true: on Kauai, where there are lots of ferile chickens, the chickens will draw the mosquitoes away from people, because chickens are very warm-blooded, and mosquitoes like that. When I was with the California Department of Health Services, the state public health folks kept some flocks of chickens as an early warning system for mosquito-borne diseases. Once a week a chicken would lose its blood to science and then get eaten by the family that owned the farm. The mosquito-borne diseases were always found in chickens before they were found in people, so the docs could get ready for an outbreak. In my experience, that works on Kauai. If I sit on a Lanai surrounded by chickens, I never get bitten by a single mosquito.

I can't say that I've ever noticed mosquitoes being particularly more prevalent during the rainy season in any part of Hawaii. The do breed all year round in the many golf course and hotel water features

Hello, Yes, here in Edmonton Alberta just awful this year. No Barbs in my back yard I'm afraid. This has been the worst outbreak in 10 years! Cheers, Michael Kelly

Location is more important than rainfall. You will find mosquitoes any time of year wherever you find standing water.

Leeward sides are usually mosquito free and the windward sides are always full of mosquitoes any time of the year.

You know, bout 4 different specie of mosquito hea Hawaii, and depend on what area you in, whether it dry or wet, depend on whether they a real problem, ok? Also, if it breezy outside, which happen a lot hea, then not too active either, ok? Also, Hawaii Depart. of Health vector division do a great job of control them too, so they can be round all year round, and with alla development onna dry side of island, with golf course ponds, and water as part of landscaping, they gotta prime place to breed, and propagate, ok? Now, lotta people come hea and neva see mosquito, or get bit, sometime they think not hea, but for sure they are, just take some normal precaution, like if you sensitive to mosquito "bite"(yeah, we know not really bite, it a little needle that go inna skin, draw blood) then consider insect repellent, like DEET containing stuff, or if you worry bout toxicity of DEET, specially for little kid, then consider something with Picaridin, it available ova the counter, and work great, yeah? You know, worst place i know of for mosquito inna island gotta be ova Hana, cause it rain seem like alla time, and for sure if you visitthere, consider repellent, ok? Peace and aloha to you!
